Bored when studying

Half the time when I'm studying I try and concentrate for hours on end and I always feel like I know the information. That is until it comes down to test day, I draw a blank. It never fails. I'll work hard study harder and some how I never get the grade I want. I wish I knew why I could study like I do and know all of the important information up until I walk in that room and bomb the test. It's crazy! It drives me crazy. And it's not like I cram like I did in high school I study everyday for an hour so I can retain the information and just like that it leaves my head. I feel as if I lose focus that's why I can't ever remember the answers to the questions. But I don't know, but I'd like to so I stop freaking out before every test I have, expecting to fail because I always forget the information right as I walk on the door.

  1. I totally agree with you. I think the older I get the harder it is for me to retain information. Then went I think I have it down I go blank to. I'm not sure how to make sure I can learn the information and use it later. I find if you can learn something and teacch someone else the material that you retain ninty-five percent of what you learned. Problem is finding someone who is willing to learn that information. Also if you can rewrite it several times and then try and apply it to something else really helps. If you can maybe find a tutor that will be willing to let you walk them through it and if you miss something they are there to help you. Those are all the things I try and do to help myself. I hope you can get your information down and do better. Good Luck.

  2. Hi Alex,
I totally agree with you! I get the same things happen to me. I will study my little butt off nonstop for hours and days before the test, but then I sit down and get the test in front of me and I just go blank and it’s like the past week I put in studying was all for nothing! I feel like when I study it is best for me to do it in a nice quit room with no one else and my phone has to be off. I get distracted WAY to easy. It also takes me a few times of reading something to really get what it is telling me. I have to use the repeat method and I have to say one thing over and over again before it will finally stick. I also found that if I use flash cards it really helps me remember a lot more that when I would just read it right out of a book. Or if I take notes in class one day then that same day if I go home and just read over my notes and each day do that instead of waiting all the way up until the week before the test to study, helps me a lot. It’s something to do with a part of your brain that holds the information and it also has to do with your memory. I also try and eat something before I study because I will always try and make an excuse to get up and walk away from whatever it is, whether it be studying or writing a paper.
